Under the spotlight is Lydia Black, a female soccer player from England. Lydia took some time out of her training and studying to answer some questions.

Can you tell us about your athletic background and sporting achievements?

I have played for Blackpool FC Girls and Ladies since the age of 10, during this time I have been top goal scorer in 2 seasons, I have won awards for Most Improved Player, Players Play and Club Player Of The Season. I also play for my college Blackpool Sixth Form where I have been top scorer for 2 seasons running, we also won the league last season which was a fantastic achievement.

Why did you decide that you wanted to go to America on a scholarship?

I decided to pursue a sports scholarship as I feel it is a fantastic opportunity to study and gain a degree whilst progressing and furthering my footballing career, so I’ll be loving the best of both world.

What part of life as a student-athlete are you looking forward to most?

I am looking forward to visiting places, making new friends and playing a range of new opponents.

How do your family and friends feel about you jetting off to America?

Whilst my family will miss me they are fully supporting me and believe it is a brilliant opportunity for me and will definitely visit! My friends are very excited for me and are envious of me pursuing this pathway.

Finally, where do you see yourself in 10 years time?

In 10 years time with my passion for sport and football, I’d like to play as long as possible, and also with me being a coach which I enjoy a lot and get a lot out of, I would love to pursue a career in being a high school sports teacher.
